Hope in the Present Darkness

John 3:1-8 Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council.  He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who came from God.  For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.”

Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”

“How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”

Jesus answered. “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.  Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound but cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going.  So, it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

A darkness has engulfed the world.  It is currently, permeating the marketplace, the public square, the government, the media, our schools, our whole culture and therefore our own lives.  It seems to want to dominate everything that was once light in our culture.  The complete moral fabric of our traditional American way seems under attack.  This darkness seems to want to strangle everything unto its control.  What can we do, well for one we must recognize we have a great yet simple assignment?

That simple assignment is bringing the Good News to the World!  In Romans 10 it states, “How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the Gospel of peace and bring glad tidings of good things!”  Leading someone into Gospel truths is not as hard as one thinks.  I used to go to the streets of Minneapolis and St. Paul, MN and minister to people.  Yes, it was out of my comfort zone, but I had a great teacher and pastor Nick Kinn who trained and modeled it for me.  The first thing I was taught was to lead them to Romans 10:9-10; “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”  Quite simply having people confess Jesus as their Lord became easy for me.  Yes, many had no interest or were not happy about the subject I was bringing up to them, but some knew they were not right with God and just needed to hear the truth and have someone lead them to that Truth.  Every Christian can be an evangelist every day!

This is not just for the streets but the grocery store, post office, and your friends and family.  There is a boldness that will come on you knowing it may be the only opportunity some people have to receive a simple Gospel presentation, and many need Him to fill the void they have in their heart.

Many people don’t bring the Good News to others because they are simply deceived or overly busy with life.  Either they do not think they are worthy to share the need of a Savior with others or they are not qualified.  Typically, they are afraid of what others will think, but God has not given us a spirit of fear but one of power and a sound mind.  The righteous of God are as bold as a lion (Proverbs 28:1).

How do you prep to share the good news with other.  It is really simple:

  1. Always stay prayed up
  2. Have an attitude of praise
  3. Always have on the armor of God
  4. Don’t argue or get distracted in a conversation
  5. If street witnessing, give them their personal space when you are speaking to them
  6. After witnessing to them, remind them to attend church, pray and study their Bible daily – give them some information or a Bible if they need one
  7. Encourage and exhort the folks you pray with
  8. Know that God has given you an Assignment, that you have Ability, He has given you Authority and an Anointing, and acknowledge to Him that you have Availability.

Do know that if you read this and are wondering if you are even right with God, I am leaving a basic prayer you can pray so that you know when your physical life ends someday, you can be assured to spend eternity with Him, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.  Here it is:

God in Heaven, I know that I am a sinner and I need your help.  I believe in my heart that Jesus Christ is your son, that He died for me and rose again from the dead so that I could have eternal life.  Jesus, right now I open the door of my heart and ask you to come in.  Make yourself real to me and take control of my life.  Be my Savior and my Lord.  To the best of my ability, I will live my life for you.

If you prayed that be sure to do three things:

  1. Read and Study the Bible Daily
  2. Pray Daily
  3. Attend a Good Church which preaches from the Bible
